Division of Genetic Counseling

Chairman Shin-ichiro Miura M.D.,Ph.D.

What is the purpose of the division of medical genetics department? It provides information and support for patients and their families who have a background/family history of a genetic disease and are concerned about the consequences and nature of the disorder, the probability of developing or transmitting the disease, and the options open to them in management and family planning. We provide thorough information to patients and their families who have these genetic related concerns and provide support for decision making as well as support from a psychological aspect. This is called genetic counseling. In genetic counseling, clinical genetics specialists and nurses work together as a team. Before and after the counseling, we hold a conference once a week with the physician in charge, nurses, other doctors and laboratory technicians.
