There are not many exercise facilities which make use of exercise as a supplement to medical treatment, although lack of exercise is one of the causes of lifestyle-related disease such as metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus. The Medical Fitness Center was established by Fukuoka University, taking advantage of the presence of departments of both Medicine and Sports and Health Sciences. After sufficient medical checks, we provide patients with exercise therapy based on medical and sports medical evidence. We hope to use our Medical Fitness Center for patients with cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes mellitus as part of our support for regional medical care. Patients with metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus must become temporary members of the facility, because while exercise therapy for cardiovascular disease is a healthcare service covered by health insurance, metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus are not.
