Department of Cardiology
The Department of Cardiology of Fukuoka University Hospital provides the widest range of diagnosis and treatment of heart and vessel diseases in Japan. The department has actively treated patients with widely varied cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Its diagnostic services include ultrasonography, computed tomography, myocardial scintigraphy, magnetic resonance imaging, electrophysiologic examinations (ablations), and catheter interventions for ischemic heart disease and rhythm disorders as well as the treatment for hypertension, lipid disorders, congenital heart disease, and heart failure. The department is internationally renowned for its basic and clinical studies on atherosclerosis, lipid disorders, hypertension, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction. Several staff members belong to scientific boards and deliver high-quality education and research on topics relating to general internal medicine and cardiology. The department includes the Cardiac Emergency Room in the 24-h Outpatient Clinic and the Medical Coronary Care Unit in the Heart Center ward in Fukuoka University Hospital.
We have also conducted a wide range of basic and clinical research to address various cardiac and metabolic disorders.
Our basic research encompasses molecular and vascular biology, lipidology, and cardiovascular physiology. Our clinical research includes clinical epidemiology and studies from ongoing clinical trials.
