About Us
"Enhancing Clinical Excellence and Pursuing Well-being"

With the advent of an aging society and a highly information-oriented era, the healthcare management of visual function has become an increasingly important societal issue. At the Department of Ophthalmology, Fukuoka University Hospital, we are committed to improving the quality of vision for our patients through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates care across various subspecialties, including corneal diseases, cataracts, glaucoma, retinal diseases, and pediatric ophthalmology.
We aim to further develop our corneal transplantation and anterior segment care team into a leading regional hub of advanced ophthalmic care. With this goal in mind, we strive to realize a model of medical practice based on the principles of the "3S": Simple, Speedy, and Satisfaction.
Since its founding, the Department of Ophthalmology at Fukuoka University Hospital has consistently worked to improve patients' quality of life through excellence in ophthalmic care. By building a healthcare system rooted in safety and trust, we have contributed significantly to the advancement of community-based medical care. Looking ahead, we will continue to engage sincerely with our patients, further enhancing the quality of medical care, and accelerating the realization of the "compassionate medical care" that Fukuoka University Hospital aspires to provide.
Our Features and Distinctive Strengths
Ophthalmic Surgery Across Our All Subspecialties
In addition to our ongoing work in cataract, pediatric eye diseases, retinal-vitreous diseases, glaucoma, and ocular allergies, we are now focusing on anterior segment care, including corneal transplantation and dry eye treatment, as a central pillar of our practice. As a university hospital, we embrace our role as a leader in medical care, building strong networks with community healthcare providers and contributing to comprehensive healthcare management for our patients.
Multidisciplinary System for Corneal Transplantation and Anterior Segment Care
We are working to establish a specialized center for corneal transplantation and anterior segment medicine that addresses a wide range of conditions--from dry eye, pterygium, and conjunctivochalasis to more complex corneal diseases requiring advanced expertise. In close collaboration with the Fukuoka University Hospital Organ Transplant Center and affiliated tissue banks, we are building a highly specialized, safe, and reliable medical care system.
